View Full Version : Getting a Trotsky bust made for my home office

Blanquist

I got a little study and work area in my apartment. There arn't many books, I've moved on to iPads and ebooks, but there's a desk, some papers, a couple dictionaries and journals. I'm thinking about getting a medium sized bust of Leon Trotsky made.

Thoughts?

o well this is ok I guess

Busts in general, tho. Not just a Trotsky one.

meh do what you like man. I never got the attraction of busts unless you want a paper weight or something, i'm a bigger fan of posters though, like some old civil war posters or something.

sounds pretty cool, though I suggest making it organic to your office style cause imho a bust in a modern style office would look weird and out of place. Also you should think about how you'll set it up, maybe some red cloth around it on a pedestal? o yeah what color/material? is something you should consider so that your office has a unifying theme i.e. a brown bronzy kind would look prety bad on a stoney pedestal or a grey stoney bust on a brown side table, know what I mean? Either way, do what you want that's what's most important, just some thoughts :)

I like busts' as they are kinda insperational when writting or reading at ones desk. I had a Percy B. Shelley one when I was going through that faze.

Don't over-analyse the Russians and bust-producing. It's a commercial thing.

Visit any big tourist area there and street vendors will try to sell you some deposed leader in bust miniature.

Edit: You'll also run into a bunch of impersonators entertaining tourists for coins. It's not uncommon to see Lenin strolling around Red Square entrances with Tsar Nicholas II.

Why not. I actually have an iron bust of Lenin in my home office, myself. I'm not sure if I would had bought one myself, but I got this one from my parents, who in turn bought it in the USSR sometime in the 70's.

It's nice. It kind of feels like Lenin watches over me, when I sit and work on political articles, translations etc.

They are indeed. Beats regular computer speakers, hehe.

They're really old, but still do the job.

quick question sentinel, how do you sit that the somewhat corner of a desk like that?

I'm not quite sure what you mean? But one of the desk's corners is kind of rounded off (you can see it from that picture if you look closely), so that one can sit there comfortably enough.

Also, the production of Hitler busts in the Soviet Union is unlikely... Highly doubt it was made in St. Petersburg pre 1990.

These busts are most likely produced brand new, you know.

i smell a buisness oppurtunity, if anyone can get their hands on a trotsky bust we can cast a rubber mold of it. we will then sell trotsky busts made out of ice to the stalinist as a center piece for their (cocktail-)parties....
we will make a kiling (pun intended) out of the icepick wielding bloodlust of the stalinoids...

Jim Cannon had a Trotsky bust. If you took the Trotsky bust off of the pedastal and didn't replace it with something equally heavy a gigantic boulder with a big 4 on it would start tumbling down and you would have to try to out run it.
