Anyone here like bluegrass?
I've been getting into it a bit recently. For some reason it seems more genuine than most country music, although I like some country as well.
There's an OK neo-bluegrass group called "The Devil Makes Three"...first heard them in a bar a while back (which is really the perfect setting to be introduced to this type of music).

I like this a lot but know of literally no artists at all. makes it hard to get more into.
on a somewhat related note, I've been teaching myself to play the banjo.

It's good to start with the classics.
Bill Monroe

Flatt & Scruggs

Stanley Brothers
mMJz-puzniU
And by the way, to everyone that is afraid to say they like bluegrass, just say you like it. It's true proletarian music.

You're from the land of bluegrass!
It's true proletarian music.
Indeed. It's the music of poor Scot Irish immigrants in Appalachia. If there were ever a group of people in this country who were totally shit on, it's people in Appalachia.

Well of course there are many other groups of people who were shit on...but if one were to go just by regional distinctions, aka what region was shit on rather than what minority etc I'd say Appalachia is hard to beat. Rural poverty has always been pretty intense, due to the simple fact that the resources dealt out to deal with urban poverty aren't as readily available. In fact when The Economist did an article comparing poverty in America and poverty in Africa a while back, their example of American poverty was some guy in rural Appalachia (Kentucky, if I remember correctly).
The only thing that I remember from that article was that the guy had cobbled together a primitive motorcycle by somehow rigging a chainsaw motor to a standard non-motor bike.

ah, I actually found the article, if anyone is interested. Notably it was written pre-economic crash:

There maybe modern leftist bluegrass artists, but I don't think there are any original bluegrass artists that are leftist. There is probably a big chance most of the artists I posted hated leftists . I think honestly it's the lefts fault if they hated us because we never tried to tap into the southern region as much as we could of. It's all to common for leftists to have the liberal bourgeois idea that people from those areas are "redneck idiot white trash" and that they should be avoided.
On the other hand, there are a lot of leftist folk artists. For example: Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie.
Edit: Here is a left leaning song from a group I listen to. They are probably not "full on" socialist. It's a cover of a famous labor song.

It's probably more old time than bluegrass.

Never!

That's the typical bourgeois attitude that is not good for the left. You can make fun of them because they have "funny" accents and are from the south, but that's the attitude that makes them not want to be leftist. This is music that originated in Appalachia. It is one of the worst areas poverty wise in the us. Making fun of them for playing in a dirt lot is just making fun of them for being poor. That's just anti left.

Yeah that post was in kind of poor taste, I think. I've called people out on this forum a couple times before for the term "white trash", which is a classist term. Not cool.

I hear what your saying. And you are right. I was having fun with the band names and of course not the conditions of their existence. I just realized one of my favorite bands is Bluegrassy or how ever you want to call it.
