A breast cancer survivor who was sent to prison over a mistaken $280 medical bill has highlighted the return of debtor's prisons in the U.S.Illinois resident Lisa Lindsay had received the medical bill in error and was told she did not have to pay up.
However, the bill was turned over to a collection agency and state troopers arrived at her home and took her away in handcuffs.

Arkansas, Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, and Washington allow debt collectors to seek arrest warrants for defaulters. If you're an occupant of one of those states, I suggest you take preemptive action.

I've read the British Empire in the 18-19th century pulled stuff like this. There was actually a prison owner who forced inmates to pay rent.

I thought the US was a little more advanced than this, but obviously not.
