I've been accepted as a transfer undergrad to both UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz, and I can't decide which college to go with. Davis has the academic reputation and is closer to home, but Santa Cruz has a much more gorgeous campus with better weather, and is seemingly less of a traditional math/science school and whatnot. The Santa Cruz campus feels like a city unto itself, although unfortunately the actual city of Santa Cruz seems limited...

I don't know what I want to major in yet. I'm leaning toward History or Sociology, mainly because I can't think of anything to do in my life other than teach and I want to minimize my workload via summers off, but at the same time I don't like feeling like my future is predetermined or something. I feel like exploring different possibilities, so maybe Davis would be better for that. Maybe I could attend medical school if I'm masochistic enough, but that doesn't sit well with my goal of doing as little work in life as possible.

So yeah, which should I go with?

You should also be thinking about off campus life. Santa Cruz has very little to offer culturally. There is a decent activist movement. I was just there and they tend to be on the militant side, which is good. There just doesn't seem to be all that much to do there outside of Pacific Ave.

o well this is ok I guess

Some serious and smart comrades of mine at Davis, they have a pretty active campus occupy.

The campus of santa Cruz is amazing and I had a good comrade in the sciences there, the program was well funded and he go a fat stipend as a research assistant.
