They had some really brutal wars, like 30 years of war; Japanese, Anti-French, Anti-US + many allies, civil, Cambodia, China.......
Now the Vietnamese are very pro-America, common people love Americans and really love capitalism.
Isn't it a bit strange? It's not shocking, I just would like to hear a nice coherent explanation.

I haven't been kept up to date on how the Vietnamese love capitalism and America... perhaps you could provide some examples?

Well, recently Vietnam has turned very pro-American because of Chinese aggression and threats about border regions, etc. These threats aren't taken lightly either. When Vietnam invaded Cambodia after Pol Pot and his crew attacked the border area in the late 70's, the Vietnamese took out Pol Pot who had become the Chinese favorite in the region. After this, the Chinese invaded Vietnam and made it pretty deep into Vietnam before being kicked back. This history has caused hostilities between the two countries. EDIT: The Vietnamese hope that the U.S. will protect them against a greater enemy to U.S. hegemony; China.
As far as the common Vietnamese people loving capitalism, well I don't know about that. They may not like the the Statist and bureaucratic system of the current Vietnamese system, but I am not sure if they enjoy the free-market reforms that Vietnam has put in place and continues to develop.

The actual Vietnamese people don't love capitalism, they fear capitalism because of what it has done to its people. Most nations and people don't hate America. They want what we have. We can worry about phones and which shoes we buy while most people in the world live in shitty places and have to worry about feeding their families. Which would you rather worry about? Now Vietnam is very far from Feudalism and while capitalism is allowed it is not the ruling ideology as we see in say China. Vietnam at least still takes care of its people.
