the article was written in january this year but I hadn't seen it before, dunno if it's ever been posted here. anyway I've always thought glaberman was one of the greatest overlooked theorists of the 20th century, hadn't heard of stan weir before but he seems pretty on it too. article itself has some interesting anecdotes and other such. anyway people might like to give it a read and if anyone has any other stuff to say on either of them or criticism of the article that would be cool too. enjoy.

I have been asked to say a few words about Marty Glaberman and Stan Weir. It may be that the request is prompted in part by recent events on the West Coast waterfront. I have followed those events with interest, but I am not there and I have not had an opportunity to talk with participants. Accordingly, please consider my remarks about my departed friends and comrades on their own merits, such as they may be, and accept my assurance that no implicit message about current events is intended.

Lynd, Glaberman and Weir are good sources on rank and file unionism aka solidarity unionism. They all spent time on the shop floor, organized workplaces, walked the line and studied theory. Speaking as a worker and a union member, people like this carry more weight with me then armchair theoreticians.
