View Full Version : See all our sticky threads? Let's talk about those!

So I saw a sticky request in a thread just recently that wasn't addressed by previous moderators and I got to looking at all the stickies and thought - goddamn, there's an awful lot of bloat up there.

Looking at them I think we may have a few too many stickied threads. However, my concern is that a lot of them do deserve to be stickied and I don't want to take traffic away from them if they really do deserve to be there.

Some of them obviously get a lot of traffic and deserve to be stickied so there's a couple I'm not going to fuck with like the art showcase thread or the "favourite pics" thread.

There's a few though that look like they could use some revising, or maybe some changes, or unstickying, etc. So I have a few ideas to cut down on clutter.

-We could just leave everything the way it is.
-We can decide to merge a few threads if that's appropriate (I don't really think so, but it remains an option)
-We can unsticky threads
-I can make a new thread that serves as a central place to link to others - i.e. an 'important topics' thread that just links to some important threads, that way people can still see they're there but we will have less clutter.

I'm sure there's other things I haven't thought of. If you have any ideas please let me know.

The purpose of this thread is to consult with the users of this board in particular before I take any action in regards to the stickies. I want y'all to be involved so I'm invoking the Plastic & Graphic Arts community here to get your opinions.

Please give your thoughts:

-What do you think about the stickies? Too much clutter or not?
-If you think anything needs to be done. If so, what do you recommend?
-Do you think any threads specifically shouldn't be stickied?
-Do you think any threads specifically SHOULD be stickied?
-Any other thoughts on this topic.

I'll take everything you post into consideration and we'll decide on it together. I don't want to fuck with your experience in Plastic & Graphic Arts so please make sure to have your say.

Blimey, if you don't like lots of stickies (and I don't) then you won't like the other subforums. The best forums have one well organised sticky that is not an index of topics (thats what search is for) rather by topic/category. New users already ignore ten stickies and post the same questions again and again, at least with one sticky they can be asked to read it before they post. By the way I've made the same comments about stickies in the Learning subforum.

Oh, it doesn't really bother me, it just seemed like there's quite a lot and when I Wanted to sticky another thread I wasn't sure if I should because there's so many.

Actually, I do like the idea of the one sticky with topics by category/subject. Definitely an option there. Although I probably would still keep a few other stickies, say the rules thread, and 2-3 others.

What about trying to find out which ones are popular and which ones aren't? Which ones were you thinking about taking down?

I'm pretty sure the neon avatar phase has passed...so...

The ~Freeware graphics software~ & ~Tutorials & Resources for graphics software~ topics are good candidates for a potential merger, or maybe an index.

This thread is already an index for graphics, maybe it could be expanded, or perhaps I can just move the Stencil thread, the wallpapers thread, the neon thread, and the image resources thread here:

http://www.revleft.com/vb/new-partial-index-t58076/index.html

Also, any thread that would be added to an index would also get unstickied.
