Oh dear. More bad news for the EDL. Some of their charming number, have been arrested by counter terrorism police, for posting racist shite on the internet.

It's an hard life being a bonehead yob.

saying that though, arrested by counter-terrorism police for posting racist comments? that bit over the top.. not that I am going to cry for them, but state repression once in full swing hits everybody.. they probably went for Infidels as they were stepping out of the line and cops needed to remind them their place. It happened before with EDL being arrested by armed squad etc.

But it wasn't just racist comments, they found things that incited racial violence. This could be anything for, including calls for race war or whatever.

Hopefully they won't start doing the same for inciting class war. Any reason to mess with the EDL and their ilk is fine, frankly it's funny when they get arrested no matter what the reason is, but knowing the ferocious appetite of the British pigs, won't be long before wider application - if not so already.

I agree. This is the problematic issue. The political role of the police is moving up a gear. And we could well be next in line. Racist scumbags today, socialist revolutionaries tommorrow....

Yes. The point I'm making is that the police seem to be stepping their political role up a gear. Revolutionary socialists are arrested for their actions, both here and abroad.

But the case involving the EDL here, pertains to posts on the internet.

Have there been any cases of revolutionary socialists in the UK being arrested for posts made on the internet, that have been reported on in the media, as this EDL case has?

If so, can you provide a link? Cos I am not aware of any, to be honest.

I typed in 'uk left wing activist arrests'.

Links came up from all round the world lol. There were some links to UK activists being arrested for participating in direction action. But none pertaining to internet posts alone.

The EDL are fucking hilarious. Almost all of their demonstrations are shouting fests between two groups of absolute tossers: Drunk racist football hooligan pisshead lads (EDL supporters) vs Ultra-Islamic Sharia Law supporters, with ordinary people and anti-fascists often getting involved too. I honestly don't know which side is worse, but it's fun to watch.

As said above, fuck the EDL but replace 'racist comments' with 'radical comments' and 'inciting race war' with 'inciting class war' and you can see why I'm opposed to any state intervention in the field of 'free speech'. Not from a liberal 'but those poor nazis' point of view, but from a general tactical point of view knowing that it'll be a pretext that's just as easily applied to us. Hell, the recent arrests in Italy of various comrades of the Parole Armata and Culmine collectives shows this.
