Maybe it's just me, but for some reason I really can't get upset about these stories (not just Google/Facebook, but capitalist entities taking/selling data on people in general). I know that they want to know about me for mundane reasons, IE they want to try and get more of my goddamn money.
But I've still got a little "paranoid militia man" in me, so everytime I hear about the government spying on me and taking my data, I'm always all like "zomg they're planning on sending me to the FEMA camps!"
Does anyone else feel similarly lol?

Sorta sometimes. I try to synthesize fear of the possibility with acknowledgement of probability but sometimes I do daydream when I'm bored and think about what it'd really be like to suffer that kind of repression because of my politics.

Yes. It doesn't help that yesterday some lady just sat in her car outside my house for 45 minutes. Or that they are perfectly willing to give any information they want to our government. But I love the internet so I've gotten used to our corporate overlords.

Don't worry, the US fascist government only harasses people that are potential electoral threats to the corporate dictatorship of Democrats and Republicans. They don't care about Alex Jones, about marxist leaders, about Amy Goodman, about Noam Chomsky, about Chris Hedges. Because these people though they are popular in the anti-corporate progressive sectors, they are not electoral threats, and they don't have the political power and popular power to overthrow the US oligarchic capitalist system.
That's why many people think that USA is the home of the free. Because many people in USA have a very very wrong notion that freedom means freedom to talk all you want, even if you are denied of health care, of food and of shelter.
So, like I said don't worry, the US fascist authorities of the CIA only harass Julian Assange and people who are a political threat to the US government
.

I do and am completely against this blatant invasion of my privacy and I don't care if it's supposedly for mundane reasons such as what shit I might buy which is why I try to find ways to bypass this shit and remain anonymous. Yes, I am a paranoid militia man.

Is that why they infiltrated the FRSO and charged some of them with terrorism. Well it seems like FRSO is the real deal, I should probably join them now.

I do too, it's because of the possibility of what they can do.

I dunno, I swear the government has my info one way or another already. i'm more worried about employers searching facebook and bringing up photos of you pissed so as to not give you a job. but I think if the state wanted to sending me to a camp they'd be able to already.
still though there's been a lot of people in the UK lately getting done for things they've said on the internet, a lot of racism, but also advocating riots during the riots, and someone for calling a councillor a ****. so yeah you should be careful about what you say on the net. despite all the talk of TEH INTERNET CHANGES EVERYTHING if you are gonna organise politically then seriously don't do it online.

Yeah, I really don't care about any supposed spying... the pigs know everything about me already anyway, or at least, everything that matters.

My thing is, who cares if they may or may not know whatever about you? The fact of the matter (to me) is that they should keep their snouts out of my bloody business, it's the principle of the matter and the possibilities. I think this trend is incredibly disturbing, I mean, where does it end?

There's an OK movie called "Inside" (1996) about political repression. It's about some dude in South Africa, when it was still in the apartheid era, who gets arrested and accused of storing some guns for rebels. They do physically torture him a bit, with some beatings and such, but the large majority of the torture is mental, and man, they go hard with it...they say they're going to execute him, they say that they've also arrested his girlfriend and that she's denounced him to them, they say that some of the weapons he helped store led to a bombing of a shopping mall, they say that his father had a heart attack and died when he found out that his son was going to be executed as an enemy of the state, etc.
Until finally the main character just kills himself in prison. It's a real feel good romp of a film.
But you know that kind of shit happens in real life to political opponents, which made the film somewhat disturbing.
