I was searching the internet when I found this http://escoladafontinha.blogspot.pt/
They call it Es.col.a (escola=school in portuguese): "Espaço colectivo autogestionado do alto da fontinha", transalation: Self-managed colective space of alto da fontinha, it is an abandoned school in potugal (Porto) which was ocupied by volunteers and students, who fixed the school up and put it running.
It is a great example of how the people can organize themselves without the need of government/organizations to tell the how.
I also find it amazing that things like this exist in Portugal
They were harrased by the police, because they did not have license for that, the volunteers protested, and the city hall promissed to renovate the license for a year's time, the people refused, because the school was rightfully theirs, not the state's.
UPDATE
Today 19-04-2012
There have been skirmishes between police and the occupiers, the police now hold the building and have destroyed everything the occupiers renovated, but the people will stay camped there indefinetly until they are finally allowed to reenter and rebuild the school.
If anybody has more information regarding this matter please post it here.
