I'm lucky enough to have a well paying job that I can do anywhere so I like to travel.

A lot of time there's nothing specific I want to do, just go with the flow and consider the places I've been a notch in my belt.

Anyone else? Places you've been and you'd recommend?

I love to travel, but can't afford to do it as often as I'd like, especially now that I'm on disability.

Twenty years ago next month, I did a six week, 33 US states, 3 Canadian provinces driving trip. I've been to Ireland three times, and also spent six weeks in Nova Scotia in 2006 courtesy of my employer at the time.

I would recommend Amsterdam, Brussels, Glasgow, Brisbane, St Petersburg (Russia)

I have travelled extensively in my "home continent" of north america (and by north america I'm excluding latin america, aka the countries south of Mexico, even though they're technically a part of north america). In fact there are few places in the USA, Canada and Mexico that I haven't been...I've been to every state in the USA (except Hawaii), and have driven the length of Canada and Mexico.

I've been to a few countries in Europe, too. I enjoy travelling.

I have only been abroad once, and that was when I was 13 on a school trip.

I went to France, on scheme ran by The Guardian newspaper. We had to be reporters for a week, and produce a journal.

It was really good. I got to stay in an old French chateau, the Chateau de Frefosse, in Etretat. I saw the Bayeaux Tapestry, went up the Eiffel Tower, visited the Georges Pompidou Centre, went on the Paris Metro, and visited Fecamp, where they make one of my favourite tipples, the liquer, Benedictine.

There were three prizes for the journals. I came third. Initially I thought fuck, only third place. But then I found out first and second place got books as a gift. Third place got a bar of posh French chocolate. So I was absolutely delighted, cos I would far rather have choccy than a bloody book lol.

One place I would like to see is India. I have distant cousins who are half Indian. My great uncle went out there to stay with one of them for months at a time, and he was there for the Millenium. I couldn't go cos I was too unwell.

I love to travel, yet I hate to go from my home sweet home, unless my trip has some purpose. I could never be a tourist for example, as such does not interest me a bit.

I've been to Sweden, Denmark, The Netherlands, Czech Republic and Croatia. The country I love the most is Croatia for its nature, yet The Netherlands for its infrastructure.

Also, if there is any comrades here from the Netherlands whom would be interested in having me over, especially if you're from Breda or Rottredram, then just PM me (Skype or here) XD And no, I'm in no way a police officer or an sneaky security agent, yet... You only can take my word for it >.<

Also, when it comes to money, I'm lucky that my student founding gives me enough a year to travel enough to where I wish and whim. *sighs*

traveling is for people who support the Bourgeois by renting cars, buying gas, and planes.

I love to travel, but I rarely do it. In 2006 I went to Germany, Holland, and Belgium to see my grandma's home town and family in Germany. She is actually from Trier, which is were Karl Marx is from. I didn't go into the Karl-Marx-Haus in Trier because I didn't really know who the hell he was then, but I did pass it on a tour though. When I saw the sign for his house I was like, "Wasn't he a Nazi?". Yes, I was that ignorant then

I don't like to travel so much, but i have traveled a lot growing up. As a kid we went to Italy each summer, in the winter to my uncle in Tirol Austria. I guess Greece is nice, Crete, Kos, Athens, Naxos and other small islands. Croatia has very nice landscape but not so good infrastructure to bike in. If you ever want to bike without seeing a street, i recommend Austria as there are many trails along rivers where there are no cars for days or across the alps. I would like to go to Cuba or asia some time.

I've been a few places in Europe. Munich and Salzburg were incredible. I made a detour to visit Castle Neuschwanstein too and it really was something to see.

"Like" it is the wrong word.

I begin each journey knowing that Lufthansa will without fail always lose my damn bags, and I'll be laid over in Newark (The worst place on the face of the earth). Once I was trying to go to Sweden and missed my connecting flight so I was re-routed to Copenhagen (still haven't been to Sweden, btw). Another time I got stopped at the Russian border because my friend has a beard but not in his passport photo and a zillion angry looking Slavic women came to interrogate us for a while. Oh, and at a Romanian border they accused my Uncle (who holds a US passport) of human trafficking his wife (who holds Hungarian passport).

Don't get me wrong, I love being in new places but the actual traveling part is complete shit.

And I have to say, as someone who usually gravitates to Eastern Europe, I found Vienna, Austria an incredible, pleasant surprise. Lovely city.

Though, I too don't travel as often as I'd like to. Money is an awful thing.

Caribbean, huh? sounds about right

Crazy social stratification and lots of drunk white people

My family's from there, though I've lived in Atlanta since around age 12.

Only places I've been to out of the country are Australia, my uncle used to live in Melbourne, and the Bahamas because my ex-girlfriend got cruise tickets from her parents for her birthday one year. Bahamas trip was canned so I didn't really enjoy it because I was herded around with a bunch of touristy people into a tourist-only section of the beach. Australia was beautiful, I went along a significant part of the Great Ocean Road. Fuckin amazing.

I took a year out before going to university, worked for 6 months and sold my car to raise enough money to travel a few places. Went to: Amsterdam, Berlin, Munich, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Rome, Venice, Florence, Nice, Barcelona, Madrid, Havana and all over Costa Rica.

Also have been all over Israel, Paris, Krakow, the Lake District in Cumbria, England, and several places in Germany.

Would love to go to quite a few more places, there are parts of Eastern Europe i'd like to go to, ride the Trans-Siberian Express, Vietnam, Bangkok, some parts of central/eastern Africa (maybe Kenya, Ethiopia), parts of America (New Jersey) and more of Central/South America (would definitely like to go back to Costa Rica).

Yeah, it's my life ambition to travel all over the world. I'd love to end up on some tiny island in French Polynesia, on a cliff edge just looking into nothing. That'd be alright.:thumbup1:

Vienna really is a lovely place, isn't it? I wasn't sure what to expect when I went. Initially I thought it'd be like a cousin version of Germany, but it was something quite unique. Aside from the street prostitutes, of course. Wasn't so pleasant.

And yeah, the money thing. Think i'm finished with travelling for a good few years due to this :(

China is great. I went there with my family a few years ago, my first and so far laast trip otside of Europe. Visited Beijing, the Great Wall of course, Xian, where we saw the terracotta soldiers. That was amazing, the terracotta soldiers especially.

Bretagne/Brittany is a cool area, slightly different than the rest of France, since it's celtic. I just visited Amsterdam, which is a beautiful city. I'm going on an interrail trip this summer too, can't wait (although I just barely can afford it)

For those of you who are big travelers, would you advise a plan like, work for a year or so live cheap and save, then take off for months? I mean it would probably seriously screw up "career" options but I am thinking of living like that.

Well I'm no big traveller, as my earlier post indicates.

But my dad did it as a young man, back in the 1960s. He worked as a cutter in a garments factory, quit his job, and went travelling round Europe with his best mate. It was quite something back then, cos very, very working-class peeps did that sort of thing. When he got back, he worked as a window cleaner.

As for messing up your career options, I wouldn't worry too much about that - capitalism will more than likely do that for you anyway.

You only live once. So yeah, why not do it :)
