View Full Version : The "race" classification system must be changed or eradicated completely

Besides it just being racist upon its creation, it is also just incorrect. The term Caucasian was created because Blumenbach believed that mankind originated in the Caucasus Mountains, his reasoning being "Caucasian variety - I have taken the name of this variety from Mount Caucasus, both because its neighborhood, and especially its southern slope, produces the most beautiful race of men, I mean the Georgian; and because all physiological reasons converge to this, that in that region, if anywhere, it seems we ought with the greatest probability to place the autochthones (birth place) of mankind." which is now known to be false as humans originated in Ethiopia. Now granted, Blumenbach was not that racist himself since he believed no race was inferior but that white skin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_Friedrich_Blumenbach#Degeneration_theory) is what humans should have. Anyways, this also creates the illogical idea of Arabs being classified as Caucasian. If it is instead rewritten to just mean the people that migrated through the Caucasus Mountains then Arabs would not belong in this category.

first, you dont understand the theory i think. secondly, biological races have long since been disproven. so what is the point even? race exists as a social phenomenon only and any discussion about race should most likely be under discrimination.

Let me explain. My teacher kept saying how white people are called Caucasian because we supposedly came from those mountains and then when I had to fill out one of those ethnicity thing, Arab was not on there so I looked it up and they apparently belong to Caucasian because they "didn't look Asian" so being as technical as I am I thought that was stupid.

I might be wrong, but as I understand it, the 3 main "races" are Caucasoid, Negroid, and Mongoloid; all of which are based on facial bone structure, rather than skin colour. In which case, it doesn't seem implausible to me that Arabs, Indians, etc. are grouped with varying white Europeans. That said, should the 3 main races be, say, dogs, I think the differences are so minimal that we probably wouldn't put them into different categories.
The idea of definable difference is ridiculous anyway with regard to the large span of land we call "Europe" and "Asia". If you were to walk from Brest to Beijing, you'd not notice a difference because of the very gradual change of peoples.

It varies. For one, Arabs aren't really a race, as some are whiter than Europeans, and some as dark as an African. Also, I believe there are light skinned Indians as well. As another user mentioned, it's based on bone structure.

Yah. I doubt we have any idea what colour the skin of prehistoric Georgians was.
'Caucasians' include Arabs, Jews, Iranians,Turks and northern Indians, as well as Europeans. It is after all at the extreme south-east of Europe where it meets South-West Asia.
But, the whole theory's junk anyway. People are people.

it's not only based on bone structure, it's based on outdated falacious unscientific white supremacist propaganda

See that makes no sense. Arabs are a group based primarily on language. Compare Sudans Arabs to Syrians (as Rafiq said, some black as Africans and some whiter than Europeans). Iranian is a nationality not an ethnicity or "race". So you included in your 'caucasians' nationalities, linguistic gorups and ethnicities. So what is a Caucasian than?
That is why 'race' is so undated, it is an arbritiary.

That is why 'race' is so undated, it is an arbitrary.
This is essentially the point I was trying to make. The entire thing just makes no sense.

Manifesto, if it makes no sense then we must all cease with Racism!
into the shredder, with all the other half-arsed theories that we are bombarded with.

It's a flawed idea, admit it and get over yourself.

What do you mean 'your' caucasian? I'm not making this shit up, just reporting it.
People who come, or people whose ancestors came, or people whose ancestors were thought to come, from a big swipe of territory from western Europe to northern India via Turkey and the Middle East, and including the Arabian peninsula and part of north Africa, are (or have been) classified as 'Caucasian'. That's it really.
