I'm having tremendous difficulty in understanding why this idea never really took off, so to speak, especially considering Tesla had the financial backing of J. P. Morgan. If by using alternating current, and obtaining electric energy (of which can be transmitted wirelessly) from the atmosphere is possible, why is that current power plants (which are largely dependent upon fossil fuels consumption) to obtain electric power came into prominence instead of Tesla's idea? Does this really all have to do with the so called Battle of the Currents or is Tesla's tower and method of obtaining electric energy, inefficient?

How sustainable is this method?
