I know that Dashboard Confessional gets a lot of bad media from people who don't like mellow stuff, but all I wanna say is, just give 'em a chance.
Listen to the song Hands Down
its amazing

Gosh, there's a big ol hype about them at my school. I've never heard any of their music. It's emo right? Not that I have anything against emo stuff...

I despise them. Not because I don't like "mellow stuff" it's because they are a gimmick band. First, I hate this new emo shit, I like the old Seattle type Emo (sunny day real estate, shit like that) but this new shit bugs me. All this "band" does is write some sappy lyrics about how tragic life is then write some cheesy chords on an acoustic guitar. Fuck them, fuck them in the ear.
But if you guys like then... uhhhhh. right on I guess.

agreed, tyler. you wouldn't be surprised at how many girls like emo bands like dashboard because they think chris carraba is totally hawt. which he is. but the whole emo thing tends to piss me off.
my friends and i will have "emo days" which are devoted to mocking the emo lifestyle. you know how they like to put their "souls" on things through writing lyrics everywhere. we write song lyrics on our arms and everything. i was sitting at the lunch table one day when i had a stroke of witty brilliance. i was having an emo day and writing lyrics on a napkin when alex accidentally spilled his milk all over the table, including/especially the napkin.
"dammit, alex! i had my soul on that napkin and you washed it all away!"

this aint emo, is it?
I'd just call it rock based on human experience, which is all rock is supposed to be about. except for like "cock rock" (ala poison) and political rock (ala rage), its ALL like this.
the real emo thing is something completely different

I agree. Real Emo is good. At least some of it is.

I'd call it rock where every single song is whining and crying about some insignificant detail of their boring life.
