Marx's theory of materialism spins into two different forms. Dialectical and Historical materialism.

Dialectical materialism is the world outlook of the Marxist-Leninist party. It is called dialectical materialism because its approach to the phenomena of nature, its method of studying and apprehending them, is dialectical, while its interpretation of the phenomena of nature, its conception of these phenomena, its theory, is materialistic.

Historical materialism is the extension of the principles of dialectical materialism to the study of social life, an application of the principles of dialectical materialism to the phenomena of the life of society, to the study of society and of its history.

Joseph Stalin gives a great amount of detail on Marxist theory of materialism.

hmmm....I would say dialectical materialism is the philosophy and historical materialism is it's interpretation of man's history.

Dialectical materialism is the world outlook of the Marxist-Leninist party.

please show how Stalinism was in any way based on dialectical materialism.

It is called dialectical materialism because its approach to the phenomena of nature, its method of studying and apprehending them,

comprehending?

is dialectical, while its interpretation of the phenomena of nature, its conception of these phenomena, its theory, is materialistic.

but what does this mean? I'm not saying it's wrong, but it isnt really an explanation.

I would say materialism is the philosophy where everything is derived from the material world, eg our ideas are just products of nature. Marx added dialectics, the study of motion and contradiction, and applied it to materialism. So man is not only the product but the influencer of his material conditions.

Historical materialism is the extension of the principles of dialectical materialism to the study of social life, an application of the principles of dialectical materialism to the phenomena of the life of society, to the study of society and of its history.

er, ok...
