This is kind of a dumb question, but what do we do when we get control of the banks. Money isn't really backed up by gold, so what good is it after we end capitalism in one country. Can we use it to improve the means of production? Or is it just paper after the revolution?

Use it to snort coke at the post-revolutionary party. Then rip it up for confetti for the impromptu 4am street parade fuelled by the aforementioned stimulant, which will no longer be the preserve of the wealthy.

Even if you think some form of currency will be necessary after the revolution, it would have to be a purpose-made new one, as large cash reserves would still exist in places and present currencies would lose meaning without financial markets against which to establish their value, so either way our current money will indeed be reduced to mere pieces of paper.

There is your problem.
Capitalism is a global mode of production and can therefore not be abolished in an isolated area, but must be disposed throughout the entire world.

It's getting to the point of just being paper without the need for a revolution. The revision of the "dollar" is coming soon. Thanks good ol' Woodrow.

Money is a commodity who's use-value is it's ability to act as a universal medium of exchange for other commodities. With the ending of commodity production, money will simply just become paper with a bunch of dead dudes on it. I guess we could all take up origami or something though, just so that it doesn't go to complete waste.
