I would like to introduce to revleft this contemporary philospher, which almost nobody has heard of (even in his native Japan).

Nagai is one of the rare modern philosophers to unashamedly tackle what may seem at first naive questions in an intensely straightforward manner. He is keenly aware of the trendy disdain for "big questions" like "Why do I exist as me?" and "Isn't morality arbitrary?" but seems unafraid to push the boundaries, and seems quite partial to Wittgenstein in his writings. Unfortunately not a lot of it has been translated to English, but his website has some articles to start.

Anyway, I thought fellow philosophy nerds would be interested in perusing his works.

umm...

Well for starters he's not dead, but he is male. He is a professor of philosophy at Nihon University in Japan.

He has a line that philosophy is something one does, and that studying other people's philosophy is just dull. I guess from what I've read of his, he used to be really into SciFi and that's how he got into philosophy, imagining alternative universes and all.

I guess he has a way of articulating problems that are pretty insightful and that speak to me and others. Perhaps due to the way academic promotion works in Japanese humanities departments, he hasn't written a whole lot in English although he is moving in that direction. He hasn't really embraced Japanese philosohpy like Kitaro Nishida and has generally remained a Wittgensteinian.
