I really don't think English is enough and German and Russian are very important for understanding the history of Marxism.

To reiterate what's been said before, Marxism = Not a lifestyle. There's nothing wrong with learning a language, however it's not a huge requirement as a Marxist considering that pretty much all the works of Marx, Engels, Lenin etc. have been translated to English already.

what exactly do you mean by this? cause there are a ton of good books about the "history of marxism" in english, not to mention that you can have pretty much all of the big thinkers of marxism ine english, from marx to engels to lenin to luxemburg and so on.

besides that, jiddisch/yiddish is a great and importent language all marxists should know.

Normally I would agree, however, it is of the utmost importance of every Marxist to speak with a Russian accent. How can you trust a revolutionary without one?

Albanian, because Hoxhaism is the highest qualitative stage of Marxism thus far and Hoxha's many many diaries haven't been completely translated yet.

I think English is usually enough, but I am "fortunate" enough to be born a German and there's lots of really good stuff done by the German commie scene. Would love to learn Russian too but I'm just so lazy...

A lot of the talk so far has been about what language one should know to read books by the dead old masters, and cultivate a scholastic understanding of their century-plus old insights.

Far more important is being able to speak a language to inspire larger numbers of people alive today to do something about their situation. English is an obvious must to communicate internationally with other Marxists. Arabic, Chinese and Spanish are languages spoken in large numbers in several countries across diverse cultures and have large numbers of speakers in the global north.

And if you can reach 10s of millions more people with a regionally widespread language like Hindi, even that has quite a bit more value to Marxists than, say, German.
