A young Roma boy was pictured on the front of a Swiss magazine, brandishing a toy gun.

The Zurich weekly, Weltwoche, has defended it, saying it was "justified" given the "crime tourism" in Switzerland.

Gypsy groups have compared it to Nazi propaganda, and have filed lawsuits against the magazine.

More racist crap making life harder for people, who are demonised and marginalized enough already.

Very true. Both here in Portugal and back in Brazil I often heard racist remarks about them even from generally tolerant and leftist people. (here in Portugal it's even worse)

I believe it shouldn't be called racism.It should be called stupidity or conscious doing of evil.True racism(even if false)is grounded in theory (biology and history)this calling of names and things like that are just stupidity or something done to harm people(exuses for right extremist political actions,abuse at work or in the school system,discrimination in general).

How groups are portrayed in media goes beyond an individual calling another individual a name.

I'm not sure what you're saying when you say racism is grounded in "theory", either. Intent doesn't make something racist or non-racist

Another one from some Slovak magazine, it says "we are hungry" ( playing on the fact that many Roma/Gypsies there depend on welfare ).
Also note the "best rated" comments on the DM article. :rolleyes:

Why is it that bigots always seem to portray discriminated ethnic groups as violent drunks? It happens in literally every country using the exact same fashion. Is there a manifesto on columnising people into categories you like them to be in, or something?
