Hello from Santiago, Chile. I am 19 years old, and i found this website by chance, I really liked it. This year I am studying for uni. exams, I hope I get into law or economy.
My country has been victim of the most brutal forms of economic liberalism the world has seen (imposed by the Pinochet dictatorship and Milton Friedman's Chicago boys).
The top 1% earn about 18.000 dollars per month and 80% ears no more than 1.100 dollars per month, the poorest 10% earn 120 dollars per month (in a country in which things are as expensive or more than "developed countries"). My country has 3 people in the top 100 richest in the world, that is more than most developed countries and if we take population, it would be number 1.
Healthcare is in the top 3-4 most expensive and education (in % to gdp per capita), it is the most expensive in the world. The work hours are one of the highest in the OCDE.
Many people us Chile as an example of how a poor country can be a power in latin america, the only people that benefit, are a minority, the rest live with debt. Chile has a dichotomy of realities.
