View Full Version : Anti-Communist propaganda in children's films

I just watched the film Antz for the first time a few days ago, and I couldn't help but notice it was packed to the brim with anti-communist propaganda. The whole storyline is about an ant who wants to "break away from the collective" and there are so many references to "individualism" and "freedom" and at one point they even say "workers control of the means of production" (seriously I'm not even kidding) in a negative context
What other children's films have you seen that contain anti-communist propaganda?

I don't think it was in a negative context. I read that whole scene as being one in which 'the ruling class is no longer able to rule in the old way' and all of a sudden the workers begin to discuss their own futures and persepectives for society - more like a pre-revolutionary situation (that is later, yes, brought under control by the monarchists, but the potentiality for revolution is there).
I also read the whole thing as being about someone struggling against conformity and their alloted place in life (read 'oppressive class system'), rather than 'breaking away from the collective' as such. 'The collective' (like 'the nation') I read as the ideological smokescreen of class rule...
I guess we have very different takes on what it was about!

I agree with you and from that perspective it would be pro-communist propaganda, but it's clear that the film makers are trying to portray communism as similar to an ant colony

Everything Disney, is reactionary. Jon Carter is about a slave fighting for his masters against an empire invading. Now that's either Fascism (class collaboration) or Maoism :/
Yeah, I know antz isn't disney... But childrens films in general...

scooby doo is a materialist cartoon. through empiricism and reason in each episode the gang unveils "supernatural" beings which turn out to be ordinary people acting according to their interests vis a vis given material circusmtances.

In the Lion King, Scar seems very Communist-ish. Most people think he's a Nazi just because of the goose-stepping scene but I disagree. He wants a revolution to remove the monarchy and give dark lions & hyenas equal rights, he makes loads of promises like "stick with me and you'll never go hungry again" which is pretty much exactly what the Bolsheviks said.

Are you kidding me? All those fucking princesses and princes. Yeccch. All those toadies that loyally serve. On the other hand, some of the movies are fun, and kids do enjoy them. I think one can make way to much about this kind of kiddie propaganda. After all, the US never even had a monarchy -- and there is no pro-monarchist political variant at all. Know-nothingism and right-wing populism are the chief reactionary vices (with a smattering of fascism in the form of the KKK).
