Damnit, i left the "g" off of "thinking".

"Low effort" thinkers are more likely to embrace "conservatism," not the other way around.

I am really skeptical.. Could we say that it is due to conservative ideology being dominant?

I am speculating: The "low effort" thinkers found in the bar (or lab) are people who have very mechanical jobs/labour intensive jobs where it is expected of them to obey..etc.

And this is going to surprise absolutely no one...

i don't think it's a simple "liberal"/"conservative" thing - the ideas of the ruling class are what people consider "common sense" i.e. hard work is in and of itself a good thing, those who are unemployed are simply lazy, etc. it's certainly "low effort" thinking, but they are ideas that are fed to us from an early age, and in many ways are very hard to break from.

maurice brinton's the irrational in politics, based on the works of wilhelm reich, offers an interesting perspective on this:

It could be attributed to laziness. People simply too lazy to either question or research a subject.

My aunt once taught me that small minds talk about and criticize others, while intelligent people talk about ideas. Granted, everyone criticizes someone at some time or another. It's just that conservatives seem to do nothing but criticize, and almost never talk of ideas. It's as if conservatives are incapable of having an original thought of their own.
