I have had enough of threads being trashed because the main topic is disregarded and everyone in it thinks starting a flame-war will do something other than piss off the OP.

I am also going to close this thread on grounds that it's asking for flaming unless each tendency continues to say positive things about each other.

Right, I really don't blame you at all and I'm really sorry about this.

Nevermind thought this was a flame thread.
A nice thing I could say is that they're dreamers.

My intentionally misinformed primary contention against Marxism-Leninism is that it is an ideology mainly focused on defending and apologizing what happened in the past instead of focusing on theoretical and practical progress.
Or, as Ernest Mandel put it:
"What is, however, true is the fact that Marx’ disciples have been too much occupied with repeating and interpreting the master’s formulas, and much too little with analysing and commenting on contemporary economic developments in the light of his theory. Stalinism, which led to a pragmatic and apologetic degeneration of theory, has a tremendous responsibility in that respect. It is necessary to demonstrate in practice the superiority of the Marxist method, and to rebuild with the materials of contemporary reality the imposing and majestic theoretical construction of Marx."
I have the same contention about Trots and some Left-Coms though. The fanatical obsession with Stalin is completely blowing my mind.

This is really a good sign that this thread isn't at page 50 already.

I am convinced that at least in the USA Stalin's reputation is beyond repair, and that attempting to rehabilitate Stalin would be hopeless. Trying to convince an American worker that the Soviet Union of the Stalin era would provide a good model for the USA IMO would be a total waste.

I dont think that hardly anybody is standing out at factories harking back to the good old Stalin days. What is happening is that good and right communist are standing up to untruths and slander wherever they find it. These lies and smears are a symptom of larger misconceptions about the history and current meaning of socialism.
