An Idea I had for quite a while dring my school life was running a fair trade stall at school leading up to Christmas, and now I have finally got round to it, it is a simple and effective method of getting people interested, at a time when they are likely to be purchasing food and thinking perhaps more generously.
Once it is cleared most major fair trade groups will offer help and advice on the running of this, and leaflets and handouts are often provided at no cost. The proceeds from the sale can go to a suitable charity.
This is one way to strengthen fair trade amongst those who will soon e the main grocery buyers, and take people away from other choices. It also requires virtually no hard work and is very fun.
Anyone else up for it?

take this in the most constructive way possibel
however, should we be concentrating our energy on such things at times OTHER than new year celebration time?

Umm what's Fair Trade? Maybe I know it under another name but I have know idea what you're talking about. I know it's got to do with helping out and stuff so yeah, it should be done all year round ("it"=whatever "it" is  ) instead of just during this one month of greedy shopping season.

Fair Trade Goods (from what I understand) are goods such as Coffee, where the pickers or manufacturers are paid an equal and decent salary, and are treated fairly.
Fair Trade Goods cost just a little more, are of good quality, and you can consume these goods with a clear consience;)
If Im wrong, someone please correct me.

That was my understanding of the phrase, yes.
FairTrade is a great idea; but doomed to fail on a larger scale in the West. Because farmers / pickers etc. are paid a fair wage the price of the end product is obviously high, compared to a product produced by a company (say, I dunno, NESTLE) that exploits its workers. As such, they are often commercially unsuccessful in the long term. Ironically it is the affluent bourgeois types that tend to buy them; workers simply can't afford to buy FairTrade goods all the time.
I think that it would be more successful over Christmas, yes. So go for it!
