Hello,

I don't usually post in introductory threads a I see it as unnecessary to introduce myself this way; I like to throw myself into things. However, I tried to post a response to one of the threads in the philosophy forum just now but my post doesn't seem to be showing up, though it gives me no indication why. Do I have to have posted a certain amount of times before I'm allowed to post in there? My soul reason for joining has been denied to me. :(

Well, anyway. I've been to this forum before, and obviously I am sympathetic to the kind of ideology that exists here. In fact, I am sympathetic to any kind of ideology seeing as mankind in general to be losing any sense of it. People are happy enough with their toasters and ipads, I suppose.

I'm not overly political, though this government is pushing me to be more active in the political sphere. I am more interested in philosophy, and, more specifically, self-knowledge. Not self-knowledge for the sake of self-knowledge, however. Rather, self-knowledge in an attempt to come to terms with life, death, society and the present day. What mode of life should I be living? For what reason? Before each question lies a gaping hole of potential nothingness, and I suppose I seek to combat such nothingness in order to bring satisfaction to life. This is my project at the moment, though in time I may shift focus onto a more political mode of life should my basic ethic of 'live and let live' be threatened. Of course, 'live and let live' is not enough if the living is superficial, empty, and devoid of anything that gives life richness and flavour.

I came to marxism from a more philosophical standpoint. I became more politically inclined when I had a stronger conviction in my ideology so maybe that'll happen to you. I'm looking forward to your posts!

Welcome

your first 10 posts have to be approved by the mods and admins and I think after 20 or 25 posts you can post links. Posts in chit-chat non-political and introductions don't count towards your post count

Oh, thanks you to you both! I'm looking forwards to being able to post some more, though hopefully I'll avoid double posting as I have done in this forum :blushing: Apologies for that.

Welcome! I spend a lot of time in the philosophy forum, and am looking forward to your participation.

Your intro tangentially suggested the deep alienation from self, others, and life that capitalism manufactures. Capitalism turns life into dead commodities; there is no "live and let live" in The System. To understand capitalism is to hate and fear it.
