I'm an undergrad student (Philosophy, Politics and Economics), but I also work (part time) in a store, volunteer at a charity and work at night in a pizza place. I'm attempting to get into grad school but keep getting rejected everywhere. Have two more to hear from, gawd help meh.

My situation's kind of funky. I finished my undergrad work in December but delayed walking at a graduation ceremony til May so my family could be there. Meanwhile I've been doing some volunteer work (after failed attempts to get a retail job...even Target rejected me [and I lied on my resume and said I only have a GED!]). I have an internship with the government (gasp, I know), and am taking a TEFL course.

If I get rejected everywhere for grad school, TEFL sending me abroad is my back-up plan.

And that was entirely too long a rant sorry. :blushing:

I work at a social workplace where we take care of most of the municipals green meaning we cut the grass in ditches and sportsfields and brush the streets clean of weeds.

We rarely plant stuff ourselves because as the head "landscaper" of the municipality says we are "lumberjacks" not gardeners.
The guy is an asshole but he is right we all hate gardening stuff and would much rather be out playing with chainsaws and other heavy machinery then dick about plucking weeds out of flowerbeds or go about with those scissor thingy's to cut shrubs in the proper way.

So i voted manual labor and i am thoroughly disappointed to be the only one so far.

What can I do about the economy? Now i'll just have to become a professional revolutionary living off your labor, the material conditions are at fault!"

I think that most people are too involved in their own problems to spend the extensive time to break free from the prevailing sentiments that accompany the proletariat. It is a large part of our goal to make this process easier and less strenuous such that the majority of us ceases to be students and becomes the average worker.

I put down hired researcher in the poll, because that's the closest to what I do. It's less interesting and much less financially rewarding than it may sound though. Just grunt work for the mortgage industry doing real estate title searches. Then it would be back to mopping floors and cutting lawns I guess.

My undergraduate degee was joint in Slavonic Studies/Central & East European Studies; followed by a PgDip in Czech language.

My research interests are Central & East European cinema, particularly of Czechoslovakia/Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland. Outside of this I also look at history and Civil Society movements in the same countries.

The topic I am researching for my PhD is provisionally titled The Czech Republic through the Lenses of Documentary Film: An Analysis of Špáta’s and Třeštíkova’s
cinematic narrative in the post-1989 environment, and aims to examine ideas of authoral 'voice' in pre-and-post communist Czech non-fiction film; and in particular if prevailing themes emerged which altered the style of documentary language.
