View Full Version : What is your nation's equivalent of New Jersey?

I was going to ask what your nation's equivalent to Detroit is, but Hiroshima circa August 10 1945 would make for an awkward discussion.

Ok I'm from southern New Jersey and the people here are no more dehumanized by consumerism than anywhere else in the advanced capitalist world. (With the exception of the Guido shore subculture.)

New Jersey is quite large and large part of which consists of what is essentially a large portion of the New York City urban area, with everything from awful forlorn slums to disgusting rich brats in ugly mansions poorly imitating colonial architectural styles, so... you're asking for a equivalent of a nation/large region/cross-section of society?

Hey, that show does not represent us as a state!!! I am already too tan to do more tanning, my mom does all my laundry, and the only gym I see is my school gym. GTL GTL GTL
(Don't worry, I do my own laundry.)
But in all seriousness, you should see some of the girls at my school. They think that having vomit colored skin is attractive, but it honestly just makes me want to throw up in their faces.

I know,
I am sure that most of the Jersey people don't act like that. But unfortunately here in the Ol'wolverine state it's popular. They act like they do in the show and apparently it makes them "cool." They complain about everything like brats.
O Michigan why can't we just accept our role as the background state

I really hate how so many people in this state think that because he was born here and lived here for a few years that he somehow has a connection to ordinary people. He's rich as fuck, and has absolutely no connection to the working people. It's beyond me how some people will gobble up his little anecdotes of being "just an ordinary guy".
The elections and two party system are just a game really.. Julius Nyerere had that much right.

I think that you are forgetting the core reason why Romney connects with the people of Michigan so well: It is because the trees are the right height. The trees being the right height supercedes the importance of the facts that thousands of people die every year from urban violence in Detriot and that Flint is still a hell-hole. Michigan politics revolve around tree height . . . Duh. If you disagree, I swear to God, I will come to Michigan and cut down all your proper-height trees. TRY ME!

You have to chop down a tree in knee deep snow with a broken axe wearing nothing but torn up pants and rags on your feet before you can do the log ride in Stalinland...

Probably Essex. There's even one of those atrocities called "reality television" with Essex in it's name. Plus it seems to share a lot of qualities with NJ.

I only went to New Jersey briefly to go to Asbury Park and check out Bruce Springsteen highlights. I thought it was pretty nice but it was winter so most of it was shut. There did seem a massive split between the boardwalk/tourist bit of the town and everywhere else.

It's actually pretty hard to see much of a difference between those places and NJ.

or Newcastle? there's that Geordie shore programme as well. But I've never been to Newcastle so I'd have no idea what it's actually like. Worst accent in the UK so that might be one similarity :p

I've been there quite a few times, it's no worse than any other UK city, you could find idiots like the ones on geordie shore in any city across the country and likely a lot of towns too.
I think Essex for the UK though, it's close enough to London to contain 'new money' morons, but far enough away that they don't become 'new money' snobs, which I imagine is like New Jersey and New York.

if were talking about loud rude young people whose lives revolve around consumerism, narcissism and sexual objectification, whose activities include suntaning, working out, clubbing and styling their hair in laughably ugly ways then the obvious answer is Rio. maybe Santos.

That's the primary aspect; plus being generally a very miserable place to live in most places plus a lot of suburbs and barely any public transport.

Spain.
:D
I've heard of this tendency of older Europeans from northern climes moving into Spain (particularly the British, who than move to Spain never bothering to learn the language and than go on complaining about immigrants in the UK speaking to each other in their native language; hypocrites )...
But Spain is still not as lame/miserable as Florida...I heard it's a pretty cool place with pretty cool people.

Alabama or Arizona is more worse.

Arizona is a arid backwards cowboy shithole near an exploited nation.

You'll be surprised...but a recent study shows that NJ is less corrupt than many other states; due in part of the perception that NJ is corrupt and thus laws were enacted.
