No love for Farewell of Slavianka? It was a WWI era patriotic Tsarist song, I believe, but this is a different version with changed lyrics. I think they might be something to do with the USSR in WWII.

They've done their best work with Leningrad Cowboys, really. All that other stuff is for the most parts a bit too tankie for my tastes.

"Nash parovoz" is a great song! It begins, "Our locomotive, fly forward!" and the melody is fantastic! My own favorite, which I could not find on the list, is "Pólyushka pólye," (the first word means something like "Dear little field"), which is wonderful. Maybe it's on the list under a different title.
"Vy zhértvoyu pali," "You fell victims," the revolutionary funeral hymn, is also a very moving piece of music.

I didn't expect many people to actually like : "Farewell of Slavianka" ,it's a Savic/Russian patriotic song, and it was used by the army of the counter-revolutionary bands under the tzarist murderer Kolchak. It's original version is unacceptable, while the newer, when the lyrics were re-written,was somewhat acceptable.
The best songs that were written were either in the period before WW2,or during WW2,while the first (Pre-WW2) were mostly about the revolution, the new society, about the people, and a few about Lenin, the WW2 ones were almost at all times about the conflict, which is of course, normal. There is also a number of songs devoted to the Soviet country,to the cities, the rivers and people of the CCCP.
However, most of these songs are beautiful works of art,and it is sad to see people treat them with horrible dissrespect, because it took a lot of time,a lot of devotion and talent to produce the words,to sing the songs,to write these works of art,and nowdays, people think that it was all about the loud,'angry' music, the many voices and rough lyrics, when in fact, the absurdity of such ideas is beyond belief. There is something inspiring about the music, something that moves, and i can say that i really enjoy to listen a couple of the older songs, especially when im on the bus,or in similar situations. It is horribly ignorant to consider that these songs are 'tanky' because it shows the absolute ignorance.Without the WW2 cycle of songs, the others are mostly (Not counting the post 1957 songs) about completely un-related subjects, about common everyday things, and the singers were doing a magnificent job, yet, today,it seems that the only theme of the songs was: " Tanks!War!Charge! " - which is absolutely false.
The Red Army Choir is actually just a secondary organ in the complex mechanism of the Soviet musical world, becuase, the ones that count are the composers, the classical, new musicians, who brought both inovations, but also followed the line of correct artistic way of creating and distributing. The Soviet music is much more than the anthem of the Soviet Union,it just happens that the anthem is the most popular piece. (I am not trying to minimalize it's worth, but i am just pointing that there are many great musical pieces who never quite got the attention they deserved.)
Alongside with the Soviet musicians, the ones really worth the attention are the German, and south Slavic ones.(There are of course a lot of others,i forgot to mention, but i will,in another post.
