View Full Version : DMV insurance question.
My cousin wants to bring his car to the DMV for the behind-the-wheel test.
He needs insurance info. The insurance info is under my aunt's name. She won't be there, my dad will be there for him. He will have proof but under her name and she won't be there. Is that ok?

Ummm... call the DMV and ask them?
I would think that it would be ok but DMV laws change from state to state so you're way better off actually asking someone who can help than posting here.

As far as I understand when one drives a car the insurance must be in the name of the person who drives the car. If the insurance is in your aunt's name than the insurance would only be good for when she drives it.
Your best bet would be to call the insurance agency and see what they say.You may want to call your state's DMV and see what they say regarding insurance (or look on their website, of course many DMV's are not noted for their friendliness to the public). The situation is different from state to state (of course, assuming you are in the You Ess Ay)

I'm pretty sure that so long as they dont know that your aunt isn't there your cool. The car is insured, and even if the driver is not the insured her insurance is held responsible. Get it? The only part that I'm sketchy about is whether she has to be there. When I took my test I drove myself and said that my father was there.
