i don't want to be in london over the olympic period and i have no reason to stay there 'cept i can't really afford to go anywhere else.
ideally i want to go back to berlin but a friend suggested we try and find work somewhere in europe, or find farms, art centres, etc. that provide you with accommodation and food for a few hours of volunteering. anybody with some experience of that sort of thing? and is there a website that's like couchsurfing but for projects like that? i remember finding something vaguely similar but i no longer have the link.
so yeah, any experience of trips away on the cheap? how possible is it?

Do you have your own flat? Try a flat exchange with someone looing for a place in London during the Olypmics.

i have a flat in leeds which i'll be paying rent for over the summer, despite not living there (fuck landlords). i guess worst comes to worst i'll live up there for a month.

Well, if you have any friends abroad that'd be perfect, crash with them for a few weeks and cook food for them in return or something. Sometimes if you're at a random hostel and you ask if they need any extra help they'll offer you board and bed for x hours of work each day. A longshot but I've seen it happen.
Failing that, it is possible to travel on 5-6 pounds a day, especially if you travel at a slow pace, but added up that still can cost a bit.

Could you rent your place out in London for a week? That way you'd have some extra walking around money while in Leeds.
Camp out in the woods with some friends for a while?

nah i'll just be crashing on a makeshift bed at my parents whilst in london (another reason i wanna get away...)
i mean i could stay in leeds to whole break, but that'd be from the end of may 'til late september and it'd probably get pretty lonely.

There are a number of communes in Berlin. I think near the Potsdam area. I have no idea who you would have to contact, but they might be able to hook you up with a bed. I don't think anyone would hire you if you couldn't speak the local language though.
