Why can't restricted members post in the cultural section? I mean its non political and I would think it would be open to everyone. I feel it would be a good step in helping everyone get along regardless of ideology or any other belief. :)

Maybe because this is a forum for revolutionary leftists? If you want to discuss films or whatever maybe you should go to a film forum?

yes exactly, this is a forum for revolutionary leftists, and what a good place to learn about the culture of revolutionary leftists then go on a forum for them. I mean who knows....we might like some of the same music, books and food :).

Well, you can still make posts about cultural topics in OI section, I don't see what the problem is. The problem with letting OIers clog other parts of the board is that it stifles every discussion into an ideological battle.

Well I can do that. I just thought it was weird. I mean I understand keeping us from posting in many of the other sections but not the cultural section. It just seemed....open I guess, since many people can share the same culture but not the same ideology.

Well, all discussion (whether it's about politics, philosophy, music, literature, film, etc.) is usually observed in relation to leftist positions. Someone like you, a right libertarian, who would disagree with all the positions in relation to these topics would constantly be trying to turn the discussion into ideological warfare. I mean it would make sense, since you're being bombarded with opinions antithetical to yours.

It's nothing personal. It's just about keeping a healthy and productive environment for discussion on the board. Though again, if there is something culturally related that you would like to discuss you can still post it with no problem.

idk i don't think there's anything wrong with letting that happen as long as people aren't dummies but

You can be a 'revolutionary Leftist' and still be Restricted.

The OP raises an excellent point. Leaving aside the asinine circumstances of my Restriction; what is the sense of prohibiting Restricted members from posting in the non-political subforums, so long as they follow the rules of conduct? (No spamming, flaming, sockpuppets, etc.) What is so scary about that? Personally, I don't think anyone should be prohibited from participating, or joining, on the basis of ideology, but that they should be prevented from discussing science, or pop culture is absolutely ridiculous.

That could be, easily, fixed by stepping up enforcement on conduct. Obviously, a thread about Scorcese, or genetic engineering, is not the place for a debate about the merits of the labor theory of value, or dialectical materialism.

Maybe Idk how restriction works but can't you still read the cultural section and see what leftists like? If all you want to do is see the music, books, and food leftists are into, it doesn't require posting ability on your part, just observation.

But uh, leftists are just like everyone else, I'd assume. Some of us like broccoli, some of us don't...

Thread closed off topic and board policy discussions aren't allowed in the main OI forum area.
