Assume that I know nothing about him.
Can someone tell me and give me statistics of Vietnam when he was the president?
Something that increased or got better?

There's one good thing about Ho, he's the only dictator with a catchy chant attached to his name.

"Ho Ho Ho Chi Minh, We shall fight we shall win"

say what you like about the geezer but that's a good chant

You need to learn to use the search function, comrade.

How come you care about statistics? That's not what the communist movement is about, that's what reformism is about. Success should not be measured by unemployment, access to healthcare, etc.; but by whether socialism is being built.

I am interssted in statistics because it gives me an overview of "things" that increased.
If the number are good then I will become more interessted in Ho Chi Minh's leadership.
Statistics also gives me information I can use in discussions =)

Ho Chi Minh did not intend to build socialism, had no chance of building socialism, would not have been allowed to build socialism, and did not, unsurprisingly, build socialism.

The policy of Russia was to prevent socialism being built, anywhere. In Vietnam Ho Chi Minh in fact helped to hold back the revolution. This has been covered in this thread

Fair enough, the one problem with relying on statistics as an indicator of success in regards to Ho Chi Minh is that you have to realize that the country was at war for most of the time while Ho Chi Minh was in charge. The Viet Minh took over Vietnam in 1945 I think, so that was when Ho Chi Minh was first in charge. The Vietnam War began in 1955, and it still was raging on by the time of Ho Chi MInh's death in 1969. As a result of the devastation of war and the American bombing and napalm campaigns, I'd imagine that the economic health of Vietnam was quite bad. I can't find any specific statistics, but because of the war I doubt much improved. I don't think this really reflects whether Ho Chi Minh was a good or bad leader.

I forgot to put the final quotation mark in the youtube link, should be working now.
