i work in a small buisnes (20 employee) and we have 2 individual bathrooms. It is stricly forbidden for men to use the second bathroom beccause its supposedly for women only and locked by a key that only female employee can access
When i asked to my boss (she is a a woman) why we couldnt access the other bathroom the answer was more or less: well men are filthy and we dont want you guys messing with our bathroom.

So you have one women's washroom and one shared washroom?
If so, then women would only use the shared washroom if the other were occupied.

People in general are filthy: when I was in night school I remember a female teacher who said to her female students that they should use the faculty restroom because the public-student one-was apparently unclean somehow. Obviously there is differences in high school and adult workplaces but I just don't see the question here.
I also remember plenty of controversies with the male restroom as well.
edit: also, how is it discrimination to have separate bathrooms? I am in favor of unisex restrooms for people who are taken to that option.

I actually remember reading a study that found womens restrooms were in fact filthier than mens.

The boy bathroom is unlocked and pretty much everyone has access to it, inculuding the customer and the women employee.
The women bathroom is locked and only female employee can access it, namely the boss, her daughter and the other women employee.
I personally think its really unjustified, those are individual bathroom, you cant be more than 1 people at the time in it anyway, what is the point of restricting the access anyway?

First of all: I would find it logical that women have a seperate bathroom, not accessible to men, as it also contains ways of disposing of sanitary towels &c.
Second of all: I do not know what the legislation in your country is, but in my country seperated bathrooms are obligatory in all places of education and employment.

it's her excuse to have a bathroom that's almost all to herself. you should sneak in one day and leave an upper decker for your boss.

What, you thought mens were filthier and were proven otherwise?

The reason women may have their own separate bathroom? Perhaps it has something to do with the prevalence of sexual assault by men?

They're individual bathrooms, according to the OP.

Its pretty much like a standard appartement bathroom with a door that can be locked from the inside, we have 2 of those.

Can we get back on topic and stop the useless discussion about which public bathrooms are dirtier cause it really depends on like a lot of things.

I think it has a lot to do with which are dirtier considering the reason given was that men make the bathrooms filthy.
Either way I don't think it matters much does it? What is OP going to do? Call in the authorities? Maybe he should ask if the boys can have the other bathroom just for them?

The study found that the major differential was the feminine hygiene products.

i was just wondering if we could consider it a form of discrimination, that all.

I think perhaps a misunderstanding is more accurate. I would go with asking your manager if the men's room can be exclusive to the men as the women's is to the women.

It might have something to do with the fact that men can't aim well and women have to sit down which improves accuracy(and makes a cleaner toilet even more important for women). I'd agree with your boss to be honest.

Most guys who work in a certain office with certain people are likely to put up the seat when they stand up. If you know a coworker is going in after you you don't want to look like a complete jerk.

How many people work there? There are about 60 people that work on my floor, and there are two times two seperate bathrooms with 3 urinals/2 toilets for men and 3 toilets for women.
Oddly enough, only 20 out of 60 are men, but still, that makes 16 toilets and 1 toilet per 7 women.
