Union leaders urged employees to return to work...that pretty much says it all. Hopefully we see more of this---the more workers are ready to step outside the bounds of when union leaders and capitalist governments tell them they can strike, the more things can really get going in the right direction.
Anyone know more about this?
Air Canada (AC.B-T (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-investor/air-canada-gets-injunction-wildcat-strike-ends/article2378787/#)0.830.011.22%) says it has obtained an injunction that forces an end to a wildcat strike by ground crew at airports in Toronto and Montreal.
Dozens of Air Canada flights have been delayed and cancelled after airport workers walked off their jobs in Canada’s two largest cities, producing widespread disruptions to the airline’s network across North America.
Air Canada described the work stoppage by some baggage handlers and other airport workers as an illegal strike, while federal Labour Minister Lisa Raitt had warned that employees who participated in the job action could face stiff fines.
But the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers said there will be no disciplinary action or fines after a deal reached with Air Canada in front of an arbitrator on Friday morning.
Union spokesman Bill Trbovich said three suspended workers, who mockingly “slow clapped” Ms. Raitt after her flight arrived at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport on Thursday night, have now been reinstated with no fines.
Mr. Trbovich, who noted that workers were outraged by the 72-hour suspension of their three colleagues, said union leaders have urged employees to return to work.
If the job action were to be ruled an illegal strike, employees would each face fines of up to $1,000 a day and the union might have faced fines of up to $100,000 a day.
