Apparently Kim Jong Un purged the army, according to an unknown source.

Seems like a smart move on his part. He's trying to solidify his authority. It seems like the media has been speculating about a possible coup, but I think that's more wishful thinkin on their part than anything else. So long as China is willing to support them, I don't see the current North Korean government going away anytime soon. It seems in some ways to be kind of similar to Cuba: Western attempts to isolate and weaken the regime through economic means have done more to prevent liberalization than anything else. The surest way the United States could have destroyed the Castro regime as a nominally progressive force was to lift the embargo.

Well you have to admit that the mortar thing is creative, if it's true.

I'd like to know if it's actually true or not.

I've been hearing a lot of these kind of stories lately and as a result I have lost interest. Purges aren't exactly news worthy in my opinion anyway, they happen everyday in some country or other.
