French President Nicolas Sarkozy said that France would make it a crime to consult website that advocate terrorism or hate crimes and would toughen a crackdown on people who went abroad for ideological indoctrination.

Could this affect websites like revleft for advocating social revolution?

Sarkozy: "the propagation of extremist ideologies will be reprimanded as an offence figuring in the penal code."

This could definitely affect revolutionary socialists.

there's always that potential when the state strengthens its censorship, though i don't think we're very high on their 'enemies' list. i mean they didn't censor any of the tarnac 9 sites so i don't know why they'd start with it now.

Nah, I doubt it.

I think it's more targeted more at right wing extremists. Why would the French government be afraid of internet Stalinists.. if anything, I would think they should want to give Stalinism some exposure. Think about it:

"These guys are socialists. This is what they advocate."

What better anti-communist campaign could you run other than giving an honest portrayal of what stalinists think?

The far left is in complete disarray and is entirely inconsequential no matter how you look at it. They have nothing to fear from us. Ultimately it's also irrelevant whether the legalistic framework for such repression exists. Governments will be willing to do whatever the hell they want regardless of whether it's legal or not.

At least decent nations close access to websites. Sarkozy just wants to bother people afterwards, I guess.
