How can I get parking ticket fines reduce in my city?

I've noticed that my city issues parking tickets that are $30 to $20 dollars higher than the other surroundings cities. It's ridiculous! I also feel that is very unfair and overpriced.

I want to get advise from some of you. Do you guys think is possible for me to garner community support to pass some sort of law/measure to reduce the price of parking tickets? Or is this something that's not common? I don't know!? I just feel I need to do something or at least start it up!

Suggestion I'm looking for are.. Do you guys think i should approach city council member first? I honestly dont really know the structure of government for a typical American city.. Anyone with experience please help!

Tickets=gov revenue. Asking nicely won't do it. I would frame it as tax on the poor and middle class.

Btw fuck parking tickets, san Francisco is brutal.

I also noticed that my city is consider "rich or upper middle class". I sure as hell aren't either lol but I happen to live within it's borders or whatever. So maybe it be harder to get something going since most people here are "pretty well off"

The traditional American way of getting parking tickets dismissed is bribing the meter maid, who is a cop, and therefore quite likely corrupt. However, if you are unlucky enough to try to bribe an honest cop, you could get into big, big trouble.

It's a tax, and the Tea Party people hate all taxes, so they could possibly be recruited into a lower the parking rates campaign.

But basically, given the huge financial trouble all municipalities are in these days, you are out of luck.

This is one of those things that will be fixed after the socialist revolution. Till then, my best advice is try hard not to get ticketed.
