Local story that's terrible but gave me good vibes that the couple stood up for themselves and each other and then escalated to do what they felt needed to be done.

Two men were assaulted in downtown Portland last week in what the Portland Police Bureau is treating as a hate crime.

Kiah Lawson, 22, and Sam Smith, 21, had just parked near Silverado the night of March 14. They were holding hands while walking to the bar when two men approached and called them faggots, Lawson said.

They got up in my face, Lawson said, and not in a friendly way.

Too many of these crimes go unreported..

I hope the victims are feeling better. They're so young.. And now they have to go through this trauma.

The perpetrator needs mental help.

I was just reading that story on the KPTV website. A lot of the comments on the story were just as infuriating as the incident itself. Good on the security for chasing one of the assholes down and holding him until the pigs got there. Too bad the other one got away though.

Over here we have a website dedicated to it: http://www.stopgaybashing.be/wordpress/

Lately, these cases are more and more in the press and people talk about it. I think it's a good thing - especially in a country where gay emancipation has progressed enormously and marriage or adoption are legal - to keep reminding "society" that caution should be kept about people discriminating against gay people.

I am glad these two young men stood up for themselves. I wish them all the very best, I really do.

I was treated appalling by the neanderthal tendency, when I made it known I was bisexual at a charity I was involved with. When I complained to the management - which, I might add has the usual diversity policy, protocols and procedures et cetera - I went totally unsupported, and was forced out.

The bigots won

Well, I do have a penchant for violence...
