Jeans sold at the UK store Madhouse made headlines this week after British journalist Emma Barnett picked up her boyfriend's jeans while tidying the house.
On the washing-instructions tag, she read "machine wash warm." Under that was the washing advice that would quickly set off a Twitter firestorm:
"OR — GIVE IT TO YOUR WOMAN, IT'S HER JOB."

You can't wash your own clothes? Are you a toddler?

My line is almost non-existent. I apologize if I offended anyone, I just have a sick sense of humor I guess!:D I am against sexism as well.

You ever heard of sexist jokes? They are that, jokes, not to be taken seriously and to be laughed at. As I said, I have a sick sense of humor. I am not a sexist, and don't act like a joke makes me sexist. You are smart so you know that isn't true. Just move on from my comment, okay? Obviously you don't have the same type of humor as me, and that is okay. That dosen't make me a sexist though.

I have a mexican friend who makes jokes that would be considered racist by your guys standards all the time. Jokes are that, just jokes. People have different lines that they won't cross for comedy and the line is different for everybody. People who tend to have little to no line (such as me) tend to offend others. I am sorry to whomever I offended, but that doesn't give you the right to say I am a nazi, racist, sexist, etc.

Who in their right mind finds sexism acceptable? It is just as natural in a capitalist society as racism is. Regarding the tag: oh well. just another success for the capitalist reaction. I find 100,000 humans dying of starvation a lot more indignant to humanity as sexism, and seeing as they have the same cause, needs to be fought at its core and not its effect.

There is an old russian joke. In the 15th century russia occupied by the Mongols,a farmer and his wife walk along a dusty country road. A Mongol warrior stops at their sight and tells the farmer that he will now rape his wife, he then adds "But since there is a lot of dust on the ground you should hold my testicles while i'm raping your wife so that they will not get dirty". After the Mongol finishes his job and rides away, the farmer starts to laugh and jump with joy. The surprised wife asks him "How can you be jumping with joy while i was just brutally raped"? The farmer answers "But i got him, his balls are full of dust"!

Nice user name. Females of course are workers and in regards to Patriarchy (and sexism) they're the oppressed group. I find it odd to think that a work force is going to operate while such a group is further alienated by sexism and other escalated actions related to it. That doesn't sound like a very big change.

Well, there needs to be a plan. In Germany now there is "Frauenquote" requirement to employ more women. I don't know if this is correct, i actually am quite against ti because it has the capability of building stereotypes for a while. The change needs to be from birth and raising children, in school etc.

I disagree that its "a billion little things like this" that are "the problem". "The problem" is that women make up a hugely disproportionate percent of the lowest paid and most precarious workers, are denied reproductive autonomy, and are expected to raise children nearly on their own at their own expense. These are not a bunch of "little things", they are pretty huge things.

I know, and I am surprised that I deviate so much in opinion from my fellow Marxist-Leninists on this issue. Perhaps it is just a matter of my personal lenient views on comedy, yet that does not mean that I find sexism to be acceptable. Then again, I am only fifteen. I might change my views as I grow older, but one thing I will not recant on this thread, and that is the fact that this anger over a pants tag will in no way aid the women's rights movement. You can complain all you want, but do not believe for a second that you are helping any woman in the world by doing so.

nine would be ok with anti-women marches because images and reinforcement don't do anything to influence people's perceptions of other groups

My brother left me a voicemail on my cell phone awhile back where he improvised a song for me called "***** woman ho". I thought it was pretty funny. I don't think he is a sexist either.

Excuse me everyone, but maybe I missed something. Why are you guys talking about racist jokes? I have always been talking about the sexist tag. I am honestly confused now.

No you were apologizing for a sexist tag, big difference.

OK, that went to far, even for me (not really because I know you are just telling a story, but the mods will freak out).

It could have been stopped by another mod other than the one who created the thread and participated in conversation. I guess that didn't happen.

Infraction for trolling.

Sexism apologist? I'm still weighing in on it.

Okay, we'll expropriate whoever made these jeans and redistribute the earnings to women.

Well, I hope all you people who find sexist jokes funny are happy! I'm closing this thread.

Good news while I am here, I will be back watching for more sexism on this board with the ban cannon in tow. I have zero tolerance for this shit, especially in the climate women are struggling against from the GOP at the moment. I am very disappointed in those who have ganged up on Mari3l for trying to keep sexism at a low on this board. There were 5 of you ganging up on her in the beginning. Thats NOT going to happen anymore. If you dont understand how or why sexist jokes are sexist, then I suggest you go read up on it before you post again on this subject.
