Punk rock is ancient history here, but elsewhere disaffected young people are discovering its anarchic energy – despite the enormous risks they face from their oppressive regimes

It must be cool to live in a place where punk is actually rebellious and meaningful.

It must be cool to live in a place where punk is actually rebellious and meaningful.the only way to be rebellious in the western world when it comes to artistic expression is to be anti-leftist, pretty much.

And what better to top it off with than some good ol' Rock Against Communism.
As for the punk kids, it's cool they've found something to concentrate their energy on in tough times, but it's kinda dull. These leather jacket mohawk "punks" go out of their way to fit into a box of unoriginality. This song is aimed at Nazi punks, but it's the same story to me:
Punk ain't no religious cult
Punk means thinking for yourself
You ain't hardcore 'cause you spike your hair
When a jock still lives inside your head
It seems as though the more they conform to the image, the more they conform to the music, and the more they conform to the message, which is NOT a good thing. Of course, they should dress however the hell they want, I'm just saying.

Good thread. We're holding a fundraiser next month to help Indonesian band Dis-Law get over to the UK. Any Glasgow/Edinburgh kids should hit me up for the deets.
