So I don't mean Flogging Molly type stuff, but I really enjoy bands like Defiance, Ohio and Wingnut Dishwashers Union/Ramshackle Glory. Does anyone know any other good bands of this type?

i remember early 2000s when the internet went nuts over william elliot whitmore and all the scene kids at my school started going on about him every day. they quickly got bored though. can't remember what came next.

im dissappointed, -100 cool points for liking such a gross genre. i always assume white people with acoustic guitars are bad unless its like miner songs or country or somethin like that. especially when its punks or hipsters with acoustic guitar

although noone really makes this music in england so I've never been to any folk punk shows, I can't imagine the crowd being anything other than awful considering that I generally dislike punks in any case.
all the people I knew that used to be punks purely listen to techno these days though so that's cool.
anyway I'm off to the aquarium then gonna see xiu xiu.
haters gonna hate.
have a good day all.

not really. one of the guys kept hitting on my roommate but he wasn't into it. at the show earlier, or maybe it was a different show, we drunkenly heckled them to play some ska. they obliged us with a few riffs.
oh i forgot i saw them when i was 17 or 18 at a bar and they snuck me in by saying i was a member of the band, so i got free drinks all night. unfortunately i was straight edge at the time, but my friends reaped the benefits.

Where I live there was kind of a small "folk punk" scene for awhile. However, none of the music sounded anything like Defiance, Ohio or any other folk punk I had heard (though I think some of the people involved were into that, and old Against Me! It was never my kind of music). They took more from folk, less from punk, mixed in a good dose of local bluegrass and alt-country, and even towards the end drone metal and noise. Nothing came of it though, most of the bands broke up without playing anything more than local shows and shows in places nearby. One of the bands is still together but they play pretty much really noisy alt-country now(and drunken Lynyrd Skynyrd covers). All of the bands and artists were far better imo than the folk punk listed so far. I might be able to find some of that music somewhere online, but no promises on that.
Anyway, sorry for the rant about local music.
