So, I am not completely sure what has compelled me to make this thread, as––from what I have gathered from a lot of the music posted on this site (e.g. black metal, punk, political rap, etc)––you all have terrible taste. ;)

HOWEVER, this guy is my single favorite musician ever and has been for at least the past eight years. He plays a million different instruments, experiments with lots of different styles of music from folk to electronica to this weird orchestral shit. I have seen him live twice and his shows are completely mindblowing, just totally unlike anything else I have ever seen.

Oddly enough, a lot of his music is sort of religious themed (not in the sense of like 'praise and worship' music, but in a subtler kind of way; a lot of his lyrics are full of religious allegories), but his music is so amazing that the religious aspect has actually never bothered me.

Anyway, some examples

Sufjan Stevens is fucking amazing. Illinois is such a classic. You have good taste.

Also a couple of your links didn't work.

Sufjan Stevens owns but I feel like a big dummy for really expecting him to do an album about every state in the US.

Totally disappointed.

Yeah, I guess that was just some publicity stunt or something. I'm glad, tho, because honestly that would have been boring as hell.

check my avatar breh. Saw them with Russian Circles once. They were pretty cool. They were at least better than Russian Circles.

Illinoise might actually be my least favorite of his albums. Too much piano and orchestra or something.

Sufjan is definitely one of my favorite artists as well. I can't pick a favorite album. In my opinion it's a three way tie between Michigan, Illinois and Seven Swans. I still don't know what to say about Age of Adz. Some songs are amazing (Age of Adz, Vesuvius, Impossible Soul) and others just felt weak.

If you like Sufjan, you may like Bon Iver. Justin (Bon Iver) is also a great song writer.

PS. It's pretty ridiculous to simply write off political art, whether it be music or another form.
