I watch it occassionally, but shows like it and CSI, NCIS, The Closer etc piss me off so I generally don't watch much. I can't stand the portrayal of law enforcement and I can't stand the portrayal of "acceptably" running roughshod over people's supposed "rights" in this fucked up society. Normally I'm not one of those leftists who gets hung up and offended at every little thing in popular culture, but cop shows are an exception.

I don't watch Law and Order, but I do watch a shitload of cop shows and wonder why... I usually end up hating both sides: the cops for being cops and the criminals for having shit (greedy) motives. Then I just think about how fucked up the world is. Maybe I should stop watching them.

Watched it too much and now i o.d. on it, but I still appreciate the writers, esp those of SVU, stick their neck out almost every episode tabeling subjects that shit shows like csi would never mention. think law and order brought more awareness about the epidemic spread of sexual violence and for example the moral problems around capital punishment than most campaigns combined.

If one were to base their entire view regarding law and society on what they saw on Law & Order, they probably would think that our society is plagued by an epidemic of violence and criminality. The reality though is that violent crime rates have been going steadily down in the USA for a long time, except for the crack war hiccup a couple decades ago. Crime even went down during the economic recession. But you wouldn't know that from watching L&O and similar shows. Even their efforts to encorporate current events into their show plotlines (such as a show about white supremacist gangs and figures that are clearly modeled after people in the white power movement) it just comes off as stupid and hackneyed, to me anyway.

I hate SVU for how stupidly over-dramatic it is, the subject of the show should speak for it's self, the music is just annoying. I am not talking about the theme song, I am talking about the slow music that plays when ever there is a plot twist in every episode, it is the drama equivalent of a laugh track and I hate it

I despise the way this show thinks how it's so cute centering the plot around all that "legal" stuff. Never would think that it would happen in every episode. They think they're sly but I caught on.;)

I love watching Law and Order. I thought Jerry Orbach was entirely convincing as a world-weary, alcoholic cop; he was one reason I watched the series in the first place. When I am riding the stationary bike at the gym, on the days I work out there, I watch Orbach acting in L&O; they have the dialog captioned on the screen; it is very entertaining.
