I\'m a new-ish leftist from the US South. I havent had too many opportunities to get involved but I hope to get involved with the labor movement in the next year or so. I am somewhere between an anarcho-syndicalist and a Marxist and am an atheist and my political influences range from Big Bill Haywood and the IWW, certain elements of the Black Panthers, RAF, and the New Left, the Greek anarchists, Marx, and Richard Dawkins. My opinions are all over the place and I cant say I really fit into one tendency.

Don't rush with finding your tendency.
I am currently learing about all of them until I find a conclusion =)

But you are still very welcome! This is a great forum with many smart people that help you with everything! =)

Crikey! Want an honest opinion?

"somewhere between an anarcho-syndicalist and a Marxist" reasonable view for a youngster to start with

IWW - fair enough

Black Panthers - cool

RAF - WHAT?!

New Left - who?

Greek anarchists - dunno

Marx- of course

Dawkins - definitely

just my 2 pennorth

hint, Trotsky:

"All Marxists in Russia began in the historic fight against terrorism"

The RAF were pretty cool cause they attacked cops, but same as the Black Panthers I don't really like their politics so much as their tactics. As for Trotsky I'd say he was the best Bolshevik in terms of theorists, but I can't really like him because of Kronstadt.

The only bolshevik against collective terrorism was Trotsky the closet Liberal/Menshevik.

IRA style gentleman terrorism is pretty legit.

With that list of influences, I think that you should join the hipster communist tendency. It combines the best of all worlds: fapping to riot porn with the occassional dive into theoretical minutia! Fascinated with urban guerrillas but plagued with the realization that you can't blow up a social/economic relationship!

god it's awesome

I dont think you can compare the Panthers with the RAF. Well, you cant. The Panthers werent terrorists. Re Kronstadt, there is a thread on it there. Somewhere within it are some links, the Sparts one is worth a read. Actually Trotsky wasnt much involved, and it was actually no big deal at the time, just a small mutiny that threatened the revolution and had to be put down. They were warned. The Bolsheviks sent 2 delegates to a meeting at Kronstadt, they were not allowed to speak and were arrested. The mutineers arrested and killed lots of communists, as well as taking an important fortress.

what is this supposed to mean?

We are not talking about collective terrorism we are talking about individual terrorism.

Trotsky was leader of the Red Army ffs.

And it was Trotsky who first called for a socialist revolution in Russia, 11 years before Lenin, and Trotsky who led the October revolution.

And far from being a Menshevik, he was the exact opposite. The Mensheviks were stagists, and so were the Bolsheviks up to 1917, but Trotsky was not. He wrote aginst stagism right back in 1906 and 11 years later his policies were adopted by the Bolsheviks.

Bit of food for thought for you, dont wanna get too heavy on a newbie thread.

No. They never achieved anything other than dividing the workers.

Not quite sure where south you are, but don't get afraid to get ahold of the IWW. The South has traditionally been known as anti-union region; However, within the last few months, there's been new IWW GMB's (General Membership Branches) popping up all across the place, including but not limited to Tulsa and Atlanta.

Welcome to the board!
