In Britain, you can claim either Income Support or Incapacity Benefit if you are too unwell to work. The Government is keen to get people 'back to work'. Or so they claim. So much so, that there is a scheme where an employer employs you, but a charity pays the wages, not the employer.
These 'jobs' run for about three months, and are SUPPOSED to be permanent. But surprise surprise, at the end, there is often a staffing issue, and the claimant is made redundant.
Claimants are told they can go back on their original benefit if things don't work out, as there is a 'linking rule', meaning if the job lasts for less than two years, you can claim your old benefit again - in theory.
What people are not told, is because they have now done a real job, before going back on sickness benefits, they must first get a medical certificate from their doctor. The doctor, of course, will not always issue one. And even if he or she does, the Department of Works and Pensions (DWP), can insist (and usually does) on an 'independent' medical assessment, to verify the claimant's usual doctor's medical certification.
The claimant usually ends up being denied sickness benefits, and told they must claim instead, Jobseeker's Allowance. This is paid at a lower rate than sickness benefits, and people are required to sign on and be subject to the carrot and stick treatment (more stick than carrot, of course).
The whole scheme is a scam to get sick people, not back into work, but rather on the dole, and on a lower rate of benefit, and ripe for the various workfare, cajoling schemes that are in the pipeline.
I have met many people who have been through this process, and have lost their sickness money as a result, and have no job to show for it.
There are over 7000 peeps out of work in my home town, and nothing like 7000 vacancies. There are many more on the sick. If ill people are redesignated as 'fit for work' due to this devious scheme, the result is even far more unemployed chasing fewer jobs.
The British Government, the DWP and the rich and powerful they serve - fucking wankers yeah
