Hello everyone.
If this is the wrong place, I apologize, please move it to the appropriate subsection.
I have an idea to start a Facebook Page/WordPress website called "HammerSickle Clique".
Essentially what this page would focus on is teaching the basics of communism, and debunking common myths. Think something like the "Highschool communism" thread, except with each myth having an article devoted to it.
This site and articles would be written in a user friendly way, as in, friendly to those who know nothing of communism, and in some way would be pop communism. By which I mean infographs, images, colour, just everything dumbed down or made easy to read, while still maintaining the image.
On top of trying to debunk common myths and provide a basic understanding of communism, the HS C would post music, movies, memes, reading, etc all related to the topic.
What I want to ask is, what do you guys think of the idea? What do you think could be added to it to help improve it? When I start to work on it, might you guys be down to help out, even if it's just spreading it/"Like"ing it on Facebook, or web design, recommendations etc..
Let me know. My theory is that none of us were born communists, most of us subscribed to some other views before, and thus something, someone or some event changed our minds. Let's change more!

I think it would be more useful if we just tried to make those articles on revleft, and then people just post a link to revleft with the article in their status.
Also inevitebly people will cry over dead Russians, so you might have to write it from a particular tendency, then it becomes little more than the newspapers that communist parties print.

I disagree with the RevLeft idea. They can certainly be created and written in RevLeft yes, but they'd ideally be published on a more visually appealing and less intimidating facebook page/website.
As for the second point, it will deal with misconceptions from liberals and the likes. Many basic things we all agree upon. But it can certainly epxlain the tendencies as well, and explain their view on questions such as "USSR wasn't socialist?"

There is already the revleft facebook group.
Which isn't very useful. This would be designed to expand outside of the RevLeft community.

I don't see any such group as being potentially useful.

Most people that frequent facebook are probably not very open to learning about communism.

I hope you're trolling.
500 million people not being open to learning, simply because they use a social networking tool?
Especially when you just saw millions who were willing to learn about a war criminal.
I wonder how many RevLefter's have Facebook.
I think that's a self defeating view to have, but nevertheless if this goes through, I hope you will change your mind :)

Bumping to see if there's further interest. I would probably start this project in May, and have some sample articles and pages up shortly before then.

Aye, comrades, I for one wish to set up the union of anti-university memes members. In which we'll collectively destroy those irritating, unfunny rip-offs.
Oh wait..

Sounds like a good idea. Spell check and citation are important to lend credibility to the page. As a teen myself at the prime age of social media use I will be happy to serve as a source of advice as you work on the project. Message me with any questions you may have.

Making communism poppy for facebook dwellers is the equivalent of the Catholic Church making rap songs to make Jesus cool and hip for the youngsters. It might not be corny though if you actually start it and get it going, but I can't help but imagine something really corny.
EDIT: Now that I think about it, it sounds like a good idea. Don't mind my inherent cynicism. Showing people that we weren't "born commies" would probably soften people's views toward the ideology.

There is a difference though in simplification and appeal; the former is making it easier while the later is adapting to means of communication that is hard to naturally stay within.

So you're discounting the internet as a place to learn about communism because of a few annoying people?
I'd say the internet is a starting point for many people who then take what they've learned into the "real world" thereby learning more and growing in the process.

There are many politically insecure people on the internet who claim to represent leftist thought but are, unfortunately, nothing better than trolls. Yet, if we start discounting the possibility of utilizing the online sphere as a education and radicalization place, than we are not doing our movement any favors (especially not when over at Scumfront they have an entire forum dedicated to "Cyber-Warfare").

nope.
organizing on the internet is useful sometimes but actual leg-work is a million times more worthwhile. if you aren't active in some group then don't bother with internet preaching

No one said anything about organizing, though facebook does help in that regard, just about education. There are many communist facebook sites but few which are actually education oriented.

Take it from someone who has spent too much time on the facebook communist communities, it won't be easy. They aren't exactly open to learning as Broespierre said (at least while they are on facebook) and as a result the people who you will attract will be communists and anti-communists.

I think the target here is politically unaware people. Not already converted leftists or right-wing losers. Tough still, yes, but every little bit helps.

A lot of the people I've talked to in Communist groups on Facebook are actually petit-bourgeois Liberals. Maybe there are some real Marxists out there, but I haven't seen them.

One also has to take into consideration that sometimes these Facebook communist groups are co-opted by liberals thus rendering them impotent and giving a bad name to actual communist theory.
