I came across an article by Ishmeal Shamir on Counterpunch.com
The Minsk Election in a Wikileaks Mirror
He describes a peaceful country who held onto their Communist ideals even after the fall of Russia. He says they are now being covertly manipulated by the oligarchy because theirs is an example of how Communism can be achieved. I did not see any articles when I performed a search here. I wondered what people here thought of Belarus, Minsk and Lukashenko.

I always heard about how Belarus has a state-controlled economy, but that does not mean that it is a socialist nation. Plus, what anti-communists call a state-controlled economy is not what we call a state-controlled economy. 51.2% of Belarusians are employed by state-controlled companies, 47.4% are employed by private companies (of which 5.7% are partially foreign-owned), and 1.4% are employed by foreign companies. That is not socialist, just an useless suppression of the free market. Also, the leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, does not sound like a communist at all, becuase he is not. He is openly anti-Semetic and has says things like this:
"Better to be a dictator than gay . . ." when talking about openly gay German Foreign Minister, Guido Westerwelle, who called him "Europe's last dictator."
"The history of Germany is a copy of the history of Belarus. Germany was raised from ruins thanks to firm authority and not everything connected with that well-known figure Hitler was bad. German order evolved over the centuries and attained its peak under Hitler."
Do I even have to say anything about that last one.

There are no "Communist" or even "Fascist" states.
There are proletarian and bourgeois states. Sometimes, they guise themselves with different ideological representations. Belarus is a bourgeois state.

And Belarus is not ruled by the proletariat or a vanguard.
