A very important topic, and apparently powerful Spanish institutions are anxious to continue to cover up the reality of the murderousness of Spanish fascism.

Not surprising, since Spain is the only country in Europe where Fascism still holds legal and historical legitimacy thanks to, among other things, the Amnesty Law and the fact that the head of state is the hand-picked successor of Francisco Franco.

Something that the Association for the Recovery of Historical Memory has challenged with the help of Judge Baltasar Garzon who was recently convicted of overstepping his jurisdiction in a domestic corruption probe and barred from the bench for 11 years. He also faces charges for launching an investigation in 2008 of fascist atrocities committed during and after the civil war in spite of the 1977 amnesty. The power of the Right remains in force.

He was acquitted of that last thing, but the first one still stands.
