Which is your favourite movie soundtrack? Might not be for a favourite movie, of course.
Mine happens to be for a fave film too - Transformers The Movie (1986) - love love looove that film and the soundtrack gives me instant joy (any track / song makes me 10 years old again, curled up on the sofa watching robots shoot eachother). I mean, Stan Bush with 'The Touch'..cheesy metal doesn't get much better :)
By the way, musicals do not count.
Over to you.

Pursuit of happiness, maybe it is just a fine piece of capitalist propaganda trying to reassure the poverty stricken that their circumstances can improve but I still enjoyed it and the Music made up so much of the overall value of that movie I could resisit saying it.

I think that Cannibal Holocaust has an extremely effective soundtrack, much in the same way as a Fistful of Dynamite.

But for a soundtrack to just listen to then I guess Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey is right up there.

Trainspotting, A Clockwork Orange, Scarface.
I also thoroughly enjoyed Daft Punk's "Tron: Legacy" score, although the film was absolute shit.

This. Kubrick knew how to use classic song on his work.

Among my favorites are Takamitsu Toru's music for Kwaidan (1964) suitably eerie and avant garde for this stylish collection of supernatural stories.
Of the classic Hollywood scores my favorite Max Steiner score is The Searchers (1956) with King Kong (1933) a close second; Dimitri Tiomkin's score for The Lost Horizon (1937) and The Alamo (1960); Eric Korngold's rousing scores for The Adventures of Captain Blood (1935) and The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938); Alfred Newman's scores for Leave Her to Heaven (1945) and The Captain of Castile (1947); Miklos Rozsa's scores for noir films, not to mention wonderful scores by Bernard Herrmann, Hugo Friedhofer, Victor Young and later Ennio Morricone, Nino Rota, Ifukube Akira...

Ennio Morricone is consistently brilliant and I'm a fan of Danny Elfman as well. Recently I loved the soundtrack of Drive which was pretty fantastic.
