after watching her new movie i cant actually begin to fathom if shes a peace icon or reactionary agent, although her father was a great man. her husband is also english and suspiciously linked to the establishment, has a direct line to the white house (so ive heard) and she has worked for the united nations. seems quite suspicious no?

Many Burmese love her.

She's an Oxford educated daughter of a bourgeois political family. In public, she wraps herself up in Buddhism.

She's an icon of non-violent revolution. However, non-violent revolution in Burma has been a total failure leading only to the massacres of the would-be revolutionaries. The only successful revolts in Burma have been the ethnic revolts of the hill tribes, which managed to gain de facto independence -- through bloody guerrilla wars.

Suu Kyi's tut-tutting about peaceful revolution has caused many thousands to lose their lives... for nothing.

The international establishment loves her. She gets awards from all kind of organizations. This is usually a good sign that someone is bad.

However as first stated, many Burmese also love her. So much the worse for them. A Marxist would not love her at all.

Reactionary agent? Kyi is far more preferable to the nationalist xenophobic powers that be, at the time of 8888.

People who talk about peaceful revolutions are just agents of the global, capitalist establishment. Capitalists like peaceful revolutions because they know that peaceful revolutions will not change shit and will spare their lives from the wrath of true revolutionaries. Peaceful revolutions only exist in fairy tales and capitalist propaganda.

Her father founded the Communist Party of Burma. Search wikipedia for Aung San.
